I had hoped that with the demise of APINZ that the afb pmp might become more democratic .Instead APINZ has used its last breath to take away any chance of this happening. I am deeply disappointed. Check out the latest apiarist advocate for details.

Yes. Such a waste of an opportunity.
Bkinc could have managed this. Totally cut out of the loop.
Now we again have a Divided set up.

It's perhaps a good place to sit at the moment, until beekeepers can decide collectively what type of industry body they want to come under going forward. NZBk does not have the necessary following. Once there is an industry body representing all beekeepers, they can, as levy payers, agree to change the structure and warrant holding of AFB management. But it will take time and money.

How do you know if Beekeeping Incorporated has inadequate following??
APINZ certainly didn't and you were happy with them. You were even a board member!
Are you keeping bees again?

How good are the beekeepers at NZ beekeeping inc at managing afb in their own beekeeping operations?
Have they successfully eliminated afb in their own hives?

Gino you should apply for a board member position so that you can make the difference.

Perhaps you haven't been following the news.

You know, about folks with massive AFB infestations that took years of negligence to get that bad, crying on social media about being asked to bring it under control, and being supported in their attacks on the AFB eradication program by NZbeekeepersInc members, who also objected to attempts at control?

I am a hobbyists beekeeper in Canterbury. I know commercial beekeepers in the South Island who know you and they told me that you are a good commercial beekeeper. (They know you from the time you kept bees in Canterbury). This is what we need on the AFB board.

We need commercial beekeepers who can lead by example. We need board member that are there for the good of the industry and not because of personal gratification or because they desire a position of power.

Perhaps once you are in the board you change your perception about what is going on.

It would be unfair to reject your application just because you think that the Agency is not doing a good job.

Afb used to spread uncontrolled 10 years ago. We can see the positive difference that the actions of the Agency has made in afb control working closely with beekeepers for the las 8 years or so.

I feel sorry for the Agency that was for the last 12 months has been subject of social media abuse from an AFB spreader commercial beekeeper who represents the worst of our beekeeping industry. Any beekeeping group that has proposed supporting this one beekeeper has lost my support and the support of all compliant beekeepers at least in Canterbury.

I hope this afb spreader becomes accountable for his actions.

I think you have more Mana as Gino than as a member of that beekeeping group.

I called Jan up regarding this. Told her that I was really annoyed that they used that Canterbury afb nob, saying that the agency could do this to any Beekeeper
They were lucky I'd just paid the bkinc sub.
I totally support afb agency, I had even spoken directly to them.
I support the bkinc because it's the devil I know, and I think a few new trustee members can really add positive change. Plus they have done and continue doing solid work. Often it's not acknowledged.
I really don't like this charitable trust running our disease and pest program.
There's this under current from the past that some continue to use to undermine.

Yes I know you support the AFBPMP (now NZBB).

Again Gino, my issue is not with you. It is not even with the rank and file in NZBInc, some of them are fine folks and good friends.

I was even invited to do a presentation at one of their meetings, which I accepted. I was welcomed with pizza and warm beekeeper fellowship, a great feel. I was speaking on the subject of AFB and in particular the role of AP2's. Some considerable skepticism was shown but I welcomed all questions and in the end I think some progress was made at that particular branch.

But I do have an issue with the kaupapa of NZBInc as regards AFB control, that I suspect comes from the top. Massively used every means at their disposal to undermine the then AFBPMP, even resorting to economic sabotage, disgusting. It was beekeepers money.

However. I think you should seriously consider the suggestion made to apply to go on the board. Because you do actually support a national program to eliminate AFB, but also have some empathy and understanding of those who are opposed, you may be the perfect person for the job.
