yer well they bombed out in Texas, wind generators frozen, solar panels covered in snow, no power produced, oh and didnt one of there nuk plants shut down,

well -14c in a normally warm area thats not built for those cold temps. water mains frozen and burst. no water no power plant operations. a lot of homes with burst plumbing. a lot of external gas hot water systems froze and burst. a lot of house are electric heating and no power for a fair while.
a lot of people where in real trouble and some died from it.

with nz govt push for electric everything, thats a real concern for anyone in snow country.

Uh Huh .... the greenies closed down the local coal mine here that supplies fuel to heat the dehydrators at the Synlait milk factory ..... the greenies closed down the oil and gas off Timaru that had the potential to generate 32 BILLION dollars of revenue ...... it's true there is no gain without pain ...... but me thinks the present Gvt is consigning us to third world poverty before they have produced the answers as to how we are gonna to move forward in a new age in the lifestyles we are accustomed to.

Texas electrical grid is completely independant from the rest of the US so when their generators failed they could not get electricity from other states.
Texas wanted to stay independant so it wasnt burdened by onerous regulation , like having to upgrade the power plants for winter conditions.
Which was suggested when the network failed in 2011 winter storm .
Rick Perry a Republican politican said that texans would rather be cold than have regulations .

Moving forward is about progressing beyond survival mode ..... building on the lessons of the past and applying them to the future so we are able to discover the true meaning of life, if there is one, rather than working 9-5 to earn a bit of coin to pay the rates, put food on the table , maintain a set of wheels so we can move around on a whim ..... A full belly and a peaceful Hearth.
It's a pretty deep thought for the early morning.
Perhaps moving forward is about living in the present, with no regard for the overdraft, mortgage, empty beer fridge and broken teeth , or the endless Wishlist of wants from the glitzy catalogues on line.

What I do know is that suns coming up, the bees are hanging out the front doors on the back of Stella, and it's time for wagons to roll and deliver them to the Dew where they can gather nectar that might help reduce the sugar bill and make a bit to cover the forest access fee.

I'm sure a lot of people would successfully argue thats actually moving back. To a time long forgotten when "man" was in tune with the earth and his surroundings. So probably early to mid bronze age (as trade and money would be involved then). Maybe no need to go back as far for NZ but your definitely hankering after a pre European settlement lifestyle
