New organisation

We do need a unified organisation, instead of what has been going on the last few years with two organisations, one trying to do good work, such as administering the AFB pest management program, and the other devoting it's energy to try to sabotage everything they do.
A ridiculous situation, but it only continued because of support from a surprising number of beekeepers. Which does make me wonder about the mentality of some of our number.
Anyhow with the downturn in the industry of the last few years and beekeepers suffering financially, the first organisation has not had the needed funds to continue in it's existing form. So efforts are being made to start anew, and incorporate the membership of both organisations, into one united organisation.
Which if enough of us had any sense, would have been done years ago.
My only reservation is that some people from the second organisation have shown themselves as cantankerous types who only exist to obstruct and cause problems, where none need to exist. So incorporating these people into the new organisation, if they are included, can only lead to problems and divisions down the track.
So me, I'm waiting to see how this will pan out.

I am only a hobbyist now but my thinking is wouldn't it be better to use a database such as
www.nzbb.org.nz
and get an election for the members to select a group of people to vote according to their preference to select a governing body who represent every beekeeper and hive.
Just like a general election which runs for the country. Every registered beekeeper gets a vote regardless of how big or small your operation is, just like everyone eligible in the country gets a vote to decide who runs the country.
Maybe the election can run at the same time the Annual Disease return or the certification of inspection is completed.
If people want to have different groups to convince others to vote for certain people (just like different political parties), let them do that.
Just my thoughts. In that way Majority wins.

trouble is that gives great power to the hobbyists which the big boys won't touch with a barge pole. theres no way their businesses is going to be dictated to by hobbyist. hence why there has always been a big split between the two.
if they can bridge that gap? who knows. i stay out of politics.
That’s how the democracy works. Everyone gets one vote each regardless of how big or small you are.
Without that we will never have a united voice.
Of course you won’t be able to please everyone but majority opinion should be respected.
Everyone will get another chance next year to convince others that their option is better if they don’t agree. 😊
