It's Feb 2021, what are your bees foraging on?

Different plants come in at different times due to weather and location and more often than not we get anomalies that mean a change in flows. These monthly topics will act as a reference point over time. Let us know what you see.

I’m seeing zero Honey Dew down in the Beech forest but plenty of bees getting to work on the thistles and vipers covering the forestry cutover faces.. Honeydew crop would have been nice and may still come .. we live in hope. In the meantime they can keep what they’re collecting for over winter.

Clover still flowering at one of my sites, but I went for a walk and no bees working it. What temp does it release the nectar? It was about 15d this morning on my stroll.

What temp does it release the nectar?

Very roughly 3 days at 21C but of course, that would be a sunshine temp (humans take the temp in the shade)

can you sum up the temp and weather conditions needed by manuka and kanuka to flow as succinctly as that for me .

The pollen trap on one of my hives showed orange (catsear) very little green(rata) so I would say the Rata flow is over

Imagine a little webcam that recognised pollen colours and could feedback this sort of thing. Imagine the cool maps and changes you’d see around the country.
